A leading UK developer partnered with Moxa to build a standardised, secure communication backbone for its co-located solar and battery energy storage sites. The result is a replicable blueprint that keeps remote, unstaffed hybrid assets stable, visible and cyber-resilient for a decade or more.
Pairing solar with storage turns intermittent generation into dispatchable power that supports the local grid. The developer’s flagship site in Eastern England produces 20,000 MWh a year, enough for 5,000 homes. But scaling that model across dispersed locations raised a harder question: how do you reliably connect and protect assets nobody is on site to manage?
Moxa’s team co-designed an architecture that links PV inverters, BESS containers and CCTV into one network with real-time remote visibility. It uses DA-820E and DRP-C100 computers for SCADA and plant control, EDS-4008 switches certified to IEC 62443-4-2 Security Level 2, MGate MB3270-G2 Modbus gateways and ioLogik E1200 remote I/O. You can explore the full range on our Moxa page.
The outcome is fewer truck rolls, simpler grid compliance and a template the developer can roll out site after site. See how Madison Technologies supports BESS connectivity in Australia, or talk to our team about your next site.
