The Moxa TCF-90-S-ST is a compact, port-powered RS-232 to single-mode fibre media converter that extends RS-232 serial transmission up to 40 km. Power is drawn directly from the host device’s RS-232 TxD, RTS, and DTR lines — no external supply is needed in most installations. A pair of TCF-90 converters connects two RS-232 devices over optical fibre in full-duplex mode, with the fibre isolating data signals from ground potential variations, ground loops, and EMI/RFI noise while eliminating RF radiation susceptibility.
The TCF-90-S-ST uses single-mode fibre (G.652 single-mode) with ST connectors. Typical wavelength is 1310 nm, with TX power 0 to -5 dBm, RX sensitivity 0 to -25 dBm, and a link budget of 20 dB. The RS-232 port is a DB9 female socket. DTR, DSR, DCD, CTS, and RTS pins are internally shorted. Baudrate range is 300 bps to 115.2 kbps with automatic detection. RTS or DTR should be set to ON to ensure sufficient port power delivery.
Primary power is drawn from the RS-232 port. Optional external power is 5 to 12 VDC via power input jack, drawing up to 20 mA. Operating temperature is 0 to 60°C; storage temperature -20 to 75°C. Ambient humidity 5 to 95% non-condensing. Plastic IP30 housing, 150 g.
