Overview
The Moxa TCC-80 is a compact, port-powered RS-232 to RS-422/485 media converter that draws power directly from the host PC’s RS-232 TxD, RTS, and DTR lines — no external power supply required for most installations. Designed for desktop use, the TCC-80 converts RS-232 signals to RS-422 full-duplex or RS-485 2-wire and 4-wire, extending serial transmission distance without the need for additional cabling or power infrastructure. External 5–12 VDC power can be added via a power jack if the RS-232 host has insufficient drive current or if cable runs are long.

Port Power & Serial Interface
The TCC-80 draws approximately 50 mW from the RS-232 port. Standard PC COM ports provide 70–90 mW when TxD, RTS, and DTR are connected, making the TCC-80 self-powered in most PC-connected applications. RS-232 cable length should be kept under 15 m at 9600 bps to minimise power loss. The RS-232 port is a DB9 female socket. DTR, DSR, DCD, CTS, and RTS pins are internally shorted. Baudrate range is 300 bps to 115.2 kbps with automatic detection.
Power & Environmental
Primary power is drawn from the RS-232 port. Optional external power: 5 to 12 VDC via power input jack, drawing 30 mA. Operating temperature is 0 to 60°C. Storage temperature is -20 to 75°C. Ambient humidity tolerance is 5 to 95% non-condensing. Plastic top cover with metal base plate; weighs 50 g.
