Overview
The Moxa ioLogik R1212-T is an RS-485 serial remote I/O module with 8 digital inputs plus 8 configurable DIO channels (sink, software-selectable direction). It is purpose-built for cost-effective, dependable, easy-to-maintain process-control I/O systems. Dual RS-485 ports with a built-in repeater extend the bus electrically without requiring external repeaters, and support redundant wiring or dual-computer topologies for backup communication paths.
Key Features
- Dual RS-485 ports with built-in repeater – enables redundant wiring or dual-PC backup topologies
- Modbus RTU Slave protocol for painless integration with existing PLCs, SCADA, and DCS systems
- USB-based firmware upgrade and configuration – upload settings from a USB drive on-site
- Remote firmware upgrade over RS-485 for field devices already deployed
- Free ioSearch utility auto-discovers devices on the network and duplicates configurations quickly
- Supports data bits 8, parity None/Even/Odd, stop bits 1 or 2, baudrates to 921.6 kbps
- 15 kV ESD and 1 kV surge protection on serial ports for harsh industrial environments
- -40 to 85 deg C wide-temperature models for outdoor cabinets and harsh environments
Applications
- Factory automation and discrete manufacturing lines where RS-485 already dominates
- Building automation, HVAC, and access-control subsystems
- Water and wastewater treatment remote sites with long serial runs
- Energy, utility, and substation monitoring
- Tunnel, transport, and trackside equipment
- Legacy PLC expansion where an Ethernet upgrade is out of scope

Supported Platforms
The ioLogik R1200 Series speaks Modbus RTU Slave, making it a drop-in node for any Modbus RTU master. Moxa supplies the free ioSearch Windows utility for discovery, configuration, and firmware upgrades over RS-485, and the MX-AOPC UA Server (sold separately) for OPC UA integration when bridging fieldbus devices to modern SCADA stacks. Configuration can also be exchanged via USB flash drive for air-gapped deployments.
