Overview
The Moxa ICF-1280I-M-ST is an industrial PROFIBUS-to-fibre converter with redundant fibre ring topology support, extending PROFIBUS DP communication over multi-mode optical fibre up to 4 km. The ICF-1280I builds on the ICF-1180I foundation with two critical additions: a redundant ring mode that provides zero recovery time on fibre link failure, and a Remote Fiber Diagnosis function that allows network-wide fibre inspection from any single converter without requiring on-site access to every unit. Like the ICF-1180I, the PROFIBUS fail-safe function prevents noise from a failed bus segment propagating through the fibre link to other segments.
Key Features

- DIN-rail mountable metal housing (IP30)
- 5-year warranty
Redundant Ring & Remote Diagnosis
In redundant ring mode (configured via DIP switch), all ICF-1280I converters form a closed fibre ring. If any fibre segment fails, traffic is automatically rerouted around the ring with zero recovery time and no packet loss. The Remote Fiber Diagnosis function can identify the Tx or Rx side causing a problem on any converter in the ring, and detect fibre cable abnormalities at non-adjacent segments — all from a single local converter.
PROFIBUS & Fibre Interface
The PROFIBUS port uses a DB9 female connector supporting 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps PROFIBUS DP with 2 kV galvanic isolation. The multi-mode fibre interface uses 100BaseFX ST connectors (50/125 µm (800 MHz) or 62.5/125 µm (500 MHz)). Wavelength is 820 nm, TX -14 dBm, RX sensitivity -28 dBm, link budget 14 dB.
Power & Environmental
Powered via terminal block with two independent 12 to 48 VDC inputs drawing 370 mA. Standard operating temperature is 0 to 60°C; -T variants extend this to -40 to 75°C. Ambient humidity 5 to 95% non-condensing. Metal IP30 housing, 225 g, DIN-rail mountable.
