Madison Technologies has created the next generation lightweight portable traffic signal system as a safer alternative to STOP/ SLOW signs. The product is intended for traffic control around roadworks or other construction sites and is easy to set-up and operate with minimal training.
Controlling the PTSS
The system comprises of one Hand-held Remote Controller (HRC) as the master controlling device and one or two Portable Traffic Signal Units (PTSU) mounted on tripods which operate as slaves.
Communication between master and slaves is by radio link, the distance between master and slave should be line-of-sight and not exceed 300 metres. The lightweight Hand-held Remote Controller (HRC) with a lanyard option, has a low power LCD display with a backlight for night–time use. The display makes for easy operation of the Portable Traffic Signal Unit (PTSU). Functions include: power-on-self-test, pairing, operating mode, warnings, system information and signal phase selection.
Safeguards Designed In
Each individual Portable Traffic Signal Unit (PTSU) has sensors to detect excessive heat, rotation, tilt or excess movement using accelerometers, an electronic compass and GPS. The intelligent firmware has multiple safety interlocks based around critical alerts to turn the signal to red in the event of operational problems such as; loss of communication, lantern LED failure, power supply and many others.
The Portable Traffic Signal Unit includes a highly stable tripod base, fabricated from zinc plated steel to stand up to the rigours of harsh environments and provide a long-lifespan.
How to Use Videos
Madison Technologies Portable Traffic Light instructional videos are designed to be an introduction of how the device is unpacked, set-up, operated and packed away. They are intended to supplement formal Traffic Controller training for Portable Traffic Signal System operation and should be viewed in conjunction with the official User Manual available for all purchased products.
Our comprehensive User Manual covers a range of topics including selecting suitable sites, setting up the equipment, start-up, pairing, system checks and selecting operating modes. Operation of the Handheld Remote Controller is a critical part and becoming familiar with the menu flows is important. There are additional features such as system warnings, critical alerts, as well as hot-swapping of batteries and general battery system management.
A number of step by step instructional videos have been developed to support users with the setting up and operating the Portable Traffic Light (PTL) system.
