In most industrial environments, sensors and instruments sit in the field while the control system sits somewhere else. The gap between them is traditionally filled with long signal cable runs back to a central I/O rack. That works in a compact facility. It becomes expensive, fragile, and difficult to expand on larger or distributed sites.
The Moxa ioLogik E1200 Series is an Ethernet remote I/O platform designed to close that gap. It converts sensor signals to Ethernet right at the field device location, eliminating long analog or digital signal runs and replacing them with standard Ethernet cabling.
What it does

Each ioLogik E1200 module is a compact, DIN-rail mounted unit that connects directly to field sensors and instruments. It reads the signal (digital input, analog input, RTD, thermocouple) or drives an output (digital output, relay, analog output) and makes that data available over Ethernet using standard industrial protocols.
The series covers the full range of common I/O types across ten models. The E1210 provides 16 digital inputs. The E1211 provides 16 digital outputs. The E1240 handles 8 analog inputs (0-10V or 4-20mA). The E1260 reads 6 RTD temperature sensors. The E1262 handles 8 thermocouple channels. Mixed I/O models like the E1242 combine digital inputs, configurable digital I/O, and analog inputs in a single unit.
Wide-temperature models (the “-T” variants) are rated from -40°C to +75°C for outdoor and harsh environment deployments. Most models carry Class I Division 2 and ATEX Zone 2 certifications for hazardous areas.
Built-in Ethernet switch for daisy-chaining

The ioLogik has a two-port Ethernet switch
Each ioLogik E1200 module includes a two-port Ethernet switch. This allows daisy-chaining: you run a single Ethernet cable from your network to the first I/O module, then loop from module to module along the field device run. No separate Ethernet switch is needed at each sensor location.
For applications like connecting field sensors to a SCADA system over Ethernet, this daisy-chain capability significantly reduces cabling cost and installation time, particularly on sites where sensors are distributed along a linear route (pipelines, conveyor systems, substations).
Six protocols, one device
The ioLogik E1200 speaks six protocols simultaneously: Modbus TCP and EtherNet/IP for OT systems, SNMP and RESTful API for IT monitoring, Moxa AOPC for active tag-based communication, and the MXIO library for custom application development on Windows or Linux.
This dual IT/OT protocol support is a practical advantage on sites where both the control engineer and the IT team need access to the same I/O data. The SCADA system polls via Modbus TCP while the network management platform monitors device health via SNMP, all from the same unit.
User-definable Modbus TCP addressing simplifies integration into existing systems. Instead of working around fixed vendor addresses, integrators configure the address map to match their SCADA or PLC setup. For brownfield upgrades where the control system is already built, this saves significant commissioning time.
Peer-to-peer and event-driven communication
For simple control loops that don’t need to route through a central PLC, the ioLogik E1200 supports peer-to-peer I/O mapping. An input on one module can directly drive an output on another module over Ethernet, reducing wiring complexity and latency for basic automation tasks.
When used with Moxa’s MX-AOPC UA Server, the ioLogik E1200 supports push-based event communication rather than continuous polling. The device only sends data to the SCADA system when a state change or configured event occurs. This reduces network traffic and improves the accuracy of event timestamps, which matters for alarm management and compliance logging.
Where it fits
The ioLogik E1200 is well suited to any application where field sensors need to be connected to an Ethernet-based control or monitoring system. Common deployments include substation environmental monitoring, BESS instrumentation, water and wastewater process sensing, building management, and factory automation I/O expansion.
It pairs naturally with edge computers like the Moxa UC-1222A in architectures where local data aggregation, protocol conversion, or cellular backhaul is required. The ioLogik handles the sensor interface, the UC-1222A handles the compute and communication layer.
